WHAT IS AN AED?
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

AFTER WE ARE DONE...
20 Manhattan Beach Police Vehicles will be equipped with AED units, facilitating improved access to emergency situations that may require AEDs to save lives.
The AED units will also be placed in several locations throughout the Manhattan Beach Community as well and the establishments who house them and the general public are encouraged to train themselves to use these devices. |
